There is something about men with long hair that is captivating, unconventional, effortless and gives us a sense of their personality. Three distinct hairstyles for the modern man are examples of how we can each individually show our personality, our own story and cultural values based on how we wear our hair.
The topknot: Traditional and historic
The topknot is a type of hairstyle where the ponytail is tied at the top part of the head. This hairstyle can be traced back to the 16th century during Samurai times. You might have seen this hairstyle on sumo wrestlers but also Netflix hit series “Longest Third Date” starring Matt Robertson. It’s a really popular style especially for men that have shorter hair and not enough length for a man bun. It’s also an embodiment of progressive masculinity that stands out with a laid-back charm. This type of hair style would work well for men with straight and smooth hair.
The man bun: Artistic and rebellious, one that doesn’t want to be defined by norms.
In my previous article, I talked about how to tie a man bun. If you haven’t had a chance to read through it, check it out here where I have layed out step by step instructions on how to tie the perfect man bun. The man bun is modern, it’s a combination of an artistic expression, rebelliousness, and elegance. Why rebelliousness you must say? It defies the traditional norms that guys should have short hair. Sometimes it looks better to have slightly bit longer hair. Whatever your reason is, it’s an embodiment of progressive masculinity that stands out with a laid-back charm. It works well with all types of hair especially wavy or curly hair.
The Witcher hairstyle: Mythical and unique
I am sure by now many of you have seen the hit Netflix series “The Witcher”, from Andrzej Sapkowski’s world-renowned series. The main character Geralt of Rivia wears a pretty unique haircut where the top of the hair is tied, and bottom part of the hair is loose. This style works well with long and smooth hair. The Witcher hairstyle is an embodiment of the rugged individualism and the allure of a life lived on one’s own terms – a modern-day homage to legendary legends.
Choosing between the topknot, man bun and the Witcher hairstyle is a journey of personal expression. Each style carries a unique message about identity, beliefs, and personal values. Each hairstyle may favour different hair types and lengths. Which one should you choose? Choice is up to you. But make sure to use our silk scrunchies as that will ensure your hair stays healthy while trying out different hairstyles.
